Mama Rita’s Restaurant and Pub
About This Spot
Mama Rita’s Restaurant and Pub feels like one of those neighborhood spots you stumble upon during a quiet drive and end up glad you did. Nestled along South Crater Road in Petersburg, this Italian eatery carries the unpretentious warmth of a local gem, where the pace slows just enough to invite settling in for the evening. The subtle hum of conversation mixes with soft throwback tunes, and the faint smell of wood-smoke lingers from the outdoor bar area, hinting at lively summer nights just beyond the door.
Inside, there’s a relaxed, lived-in comfort that encourages lingering at the table, whether you arrive solo or with a group. The friendly faces behind the bar and servers make an earnest effort to create a space where everyone feels recognized without fuss. Even as the night winds down, the staff’s easygoing nature and genuine hospitality linger, making the place feel like a pause from the rush of the day.
The menu reflects a sincere embrace of home-style Italian cooking with a local twist. Dishes arrive generously portioned, meant to be shared and savored—a hearty lasagna invites warmth on a cool evening, while the pepperoni pizza and chicken Alfredo land with satisfying familiarity. Gluten-free options find their way onto the table thoughtfully, a small but telling detail of care. And the frozen margaritas—bright, fruity, and easy to enjoy—add a playful note, perfect for unwinding with friends after a long week.
More than just a meal, Mama Rita’s feels like access to moments: a casual dinner that turns into a chance to join in on karaoke night, a recommendation from a local motel clerk leading to unexpectedly good comfort food, or a welcome refuge for travelers passing through. It’s the kind of spot where the rhythm of genuine human moments—sharing stories over food, finding connection through music—creates a quietly memorable experience.

Upon walking it’s not very welcoming BUT we stayed anyway. The service was amazing! Food was even better! Would definitely recommend the chicken Alfredo! Serving size was enough to share. We were even invited back to their karaoke night. This is Friday nights I believe it starts at 8! Good fun. They made great efforts to make us feel welcomed and the alcohol wasn’t the best but it was a good time.

We all enjoyed our food. We all got something different- Pizza, Pasta and a burger…..and were all happy and said we would come back again. Great draft beer prices too! The only thing we noticed as we walked in was a slight smell of cigarette smoke. Did not see anyone smoking but was still in the air perhaps from the outdoor area off of the bar.

Driving from Atlanta to NYC and stopped here for the night. Comfort Inn check in recommended this restaurant. For $11 I got a large perfectly cooked cheeseburger and large pile of crispy fries. Excellent Choice!

Just finishing dinner here as a weary traveler. Showed up an hour to close with an objective to be expedient. Food came out timely. Very much enjoyed the lasagna. Justin at the bar could read my hurry and told me to take my time and enjoy my beer, which was the exact right thing to say, haha. A gent came around and asked if I had any song requests, but I was vibing with the throwbacks, ACDC era stuff. Really just enjoyed the atmosphere and appreciated the staff's measures to keep me comfortable. Very much recommend for a nice evening!

The food and service was awesome. They had gluten free pizza and pasta options that I really appreciated. This seems to be a local place that has been around for a while. Highly recommend the wings and gluten free Margarita pizza.
